You may not immediately think of filmmaking, current news, or even documentaries. However, since the 70’s, documentary filmmaking and the design of video games have often converged in the form of docugames: games that aspire to the form of a documentary and incorporate documentary like elements into its gameplay. While the official term applied to these video games is “Docugame”, these games are usually serious and/or journalistic, address current social issues, and may also cover various other historical topics. For years, there have been numerous discussions over whether games can even be considered true documentaries, whether the name is descriptive or ‘aspirational pre-naming’, or just an attempt by video game developers to borrow from the established cultural cachet of documentaries. Irregardless of these widespread opinions, Littleton Miller has brought an entirely new experience to the gaming world: a “Creative Network” of newsworthy docugame projects in various immersive formats.
