Description
Some languages don't just carry words. They carry home.
Maybe you grew up hearing it in the kitchen but never quite learned to speak back. Maybe you're flying into Lagos next month and want to say more than "Hello." Maybe your partner's family speaks Yoruba at Christmas and you just want to finally understand what's so funny.
Whatever brought you here, you're not too late.
Koyo is a language learning app built specifically for Nigerian languages, starting with Yoruba, Igbo, and Edo. Not just vocabulary lists and grammar drills, but the real language, the way real people speak it. With the culture baked in. With the warmth intact.
Learn the Language. Understand the People.
Most apps teach you what a word means.
Koyo teaches you what it feels like to use it, the right greeting for an elder, what to say when you walk into someone's home, the phrase that makes your grandmother smile because you finally got it right.
Every lesson is built with cultural context, so you're not just learning a language. You're learning how to belong in a conversation.
What's Inside Koyo
Real Audio, Real Accents
Hear the language the way it's actually spoken, not robotic, not rehearsed. Because how a word sounds is just as important as what it means.
Bite-Sized Daily Lessons
Five minutes while you're commuting, waiting, or winding down. Every session is short, focused, and designed to actually stick.
Exercises That Build Real Fluency
Listening. Typing. Matching. Conversational prompts. Because recognizing a word and using a word are two very different things.
Smart Repetition
Koyo tracks what you're forgetting and brings it back at just the right moment, so you don't forget.
Cultural Insights on Every Card
Language is never just language. Koyo gives you the context behind the words, the traditions, the meanings, the moments when it matters most.
What We're Building Next
We're just getting started. On the way in the future:
Daily streaks and habit tracking
Badges and milestone rewards
Gamified challenges and leaderboards
More Nigerian, and eventually more African languages
Koyo is growing with you. The earlier you start, the more you'll have when it's all here.
Who Is Koyo For?
The diaspora kid who grew up between two worlds and is finally choosing to reclaim the one that got away.
The traveller visiting Nigeria for the first time, wanting to connect beyond the tourist surface, to actually see people light up when you try.
The partner in an interracial relationship who wants to show up for their partner's family, understand the jokes, join the conversation, and earn that quiet nod of respect from the in-laws.
The curious learner who loves Afrobeats, Nollywood, or Nigerian culture and wants to go deeper than subtitles.
The parent raising kids far from home, fighting to make sure the language doesn't skip a generation.
The returnee who left at eight years old, is moving back at thirty, and needs to find their voice again.
A note on where we are
Koyo currently offers Yoruba, Igbo, and Edo. We're building carefully and intentionally, because these languages deserve to be done right, not just done fast. More languages are coming. For now, we're going deep before we go wide.
Download Koyo. Come home to your language.
You don't need to be fluent to start.
You just need one reason.
Yours is already there.
