STARBOARD!

par Dale Gass

v1.1.1 22 Mo Universel 4+

Description

STARBOARD! is a race start and navigation assistant for sailors tired of guessing their approach to the line.

You know the feeling: 30 seconds to the gun, bow on the line, and no idea if you're hot or not. STARBOARD! fixes that. It tracks your GPS position, calculates your ETA to the start line in real time, and tells you — in seconds — whether you're early or late. Green means push it. Red means soak.

No more mental math. No more OCS.

START SEQUENCE

Set your start marks by tapping when you sail past them. Set your countdown. STARBOARD! does the rest.

The intercept map shows your boat, the start line, and your projected crossing point — all updating live. The countdown gauge displays time remaining alongside your ETA, with a clear early/late delta so you can adjust speed with confidence.

Audio callouts announce the time at key intervals — 60, 30, 20, 10, and the final 5-4-3-2-1-go — with haptic feedback through the countdown. Plays through silent mode so you never miss a call.

RACE NAVIGATION & STRATEGY

After the gun, STARBOARD! becomes your tactical nav station. Navigate mark to mark with live distance, VMG, compass bearing, and ETA. Layline detection warns you when you're in the zone — configurable angles with voice announcements so you can keep your eyes on the water, not the screen.

RACE REVIEW

Every race is recorded automatically. Replay starts and races with a jog-wheel scrubber, ghost trail, and full zoom/pan/rotate controls. Export tracks as GPX, KML, or CSV for deeper analysis.

APPLE WATCH

Race from the wrist. The Apple Watch companion mirrors your phone's countdown ring with the same early/late feedback. Tap a mark to navigate — distance, VMG, ETA, and bearing on the watch face. Layline tack-zone wedge lights up when you're in the groove. Haptic countdown vibrates through the final 10 seconds.

Pair, look down, sail faster.

Nouveautés (v1.1.1)

What's new in 1.1.1

• Updated default mark positions.

• Setting one start-line mark no longer clears the other when you've moved more than 0.5 NM since the last
ping.

• GPS speed drops to 0 when you're stationary instead of holding the last moving value — no more reading 5
kts at the dock. The 1-meter distance filter is also gone, so you get every available GPS fix.

• New optional GPS Noise Filter under Settings → Position Source. Off by default — the filter trades turn
responsiveness for a calmer at-rest reading, which is the wrong trade for racing. Available if you want it.

• Countdown digits flip at the actual second boundary now ("5" means 4.001-5.000 s remaining). Post-start
elapsed time uses floor semantics so it runs continuously. Phone, watch, and ePaper all flip in sync.

• Voice callouts phrase large early/late deltas as "X minutes Y seconds" instead of "150 seconds" — easier
to parse during a busy start.

• iOS keeps GPS, race state, and audio cues running while a settings sheet is open — your gauges don't
freeze when you check the picker — and auto-dismisses any sheet when you long-press the lock.

• Apple Watch now syncs marks and start-line reliably after a watch reinstall or paired-device hiccup — no
more empty marks list on first launch.

• Watch keep-awake during countdown no longer requires a HealthKit permission prompt. Wrist-down haptics
still fire on every countdown mark.

• "End Race" on the watch transitions instantly instead of hanging for several seconds.

• Watch shows early/late as whole seconds (no more flickering sub-second digit).

• Distance readouts on the watch respect your phone's unit preference (feet/meters under 1 NM, NM/mi/km
above).

• Shared top status bar across the watch's countdown, nav, and speed screens — connection state, distance to
line, and heading always in the same place.

• Layline-angle voice callouts are suppressed within 600 ft of a mark, so the final approach stays quiet.

• Lock screen on the watch persists across mode switches (countdown ↔ nav).
