Description
Ecuantro is a specialized app for physical anthropology, bioarchaeology, and forensic anthropology on iPhone and iPad. It brings together calculators based on published methods and equations to support osteological measurement workflows and the analysis of human skeletal remains.
It includes modules for:
• adult and juvenile stature estimation from long bones
• stature estimation from femur fragments
• anatomical stature reconstruction
• age-at-death estimation using the Lamendin method and logistic regression models
• sex estimation with DSP2, Walrath, mastoid triangle, calcaneus, Spradley & Jantz, and CalcTalus
• estimation of the number of individuals using MNI, LI, GMT, and MLNI
• body mass estimation from femoral head diameter
• enamel hypoplasia formation age
• biological distance using Smith’s MMD
Ecuantro is designed for students, teachers, researchers, and professionals who need a practical, portable, and organized tool for bioanthropological calculations. The app also allows users to copy, export, and share results, while keeping methodological references accessible during the workflow.
Available languages: Spanish and English.
Ecuantro is a technical and academic support tool. Interpretation of results requires specialized training.
What's new (v1.3.0)
New sex estimation methods
DSP2: Probabilistic Sex Diagnosis with multivariate reference models.
Spradley: estimation from postcranial long bone measurements.
Calcaneus: discriminant functions based on calcaneal morphometrics.
Talus: discriminant functions based on talar morphometrics.
Anatomical stature — Fully method
Implementation of the Fully anatomical method with Raxter et al. (2006) corrections.
Measurements of cranium, vertebral column (C2–L5), sacrum, femur, tibia, and talocrural articulation.
Corrected soft tissue factors per Fully (1956) as cited by Raxter (2006).
Automatic anatomical range validation and unit error detection (cm vs mm).
Biological distance (MMD)
Hierarchical clustering with interactive dendrogram.
Multidimensional scaling (MDS) for visualizing biological affinities between populations.
Distance matrix heatmap.
