Whether it's a case of FOMO, comparing our lives to a highlight reel, feeling pressure to perform, or the waning trust in the content we’re viewing — we’ve all felt a little less happy from using social media.
It’s been this way for so long most people can’t imagine it any other way. The good news is we at Octopii have imagined it another way — and it's how people actually socialize in real life. Surprisingly, it has never been developed in the entire history of social apps!
So how do we do it?
Just like real life, Octopii has the concept of both a private and public life — and it turns out, this is the way social media was always meant to be as well.
PRIVATE POSTS:
+ For starters, it's silly-easy to choose who does (and doesn't) see each of your posts — whether its 1 person or 100, you choose the audience right at the time of posting. Posts for your family are only seen by your family, while posts for your besties are only seen by your besties, and the same goes for your book club, or even potential dates — it's just 1 tap.
+ Next up, every comment you receive on Private Posts begin as a private 1-on-1 thread. This means receiving 5 comments on a post is more like starting 5 private conversations — rather than 5 random people all talking over each other (like other social apps). That doesn't happen in real life, why does it happen on social media?
+ The best part about Octopii's private comments? You have the ability to add more friends to the thread at any time! Anyone in the thread can request others to be added — but it's you, the post creator, that gets to choose who does (and doesn't!) get invited to the thread. It's extremely fast and easy — and the power is all yours. Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility.

+ For starters, Octopii's public feeds and comments are always location based — every post and comment has the city and state clearly visible at all times so you'll have a much better idea of who you're talking to on the app. (No more arguing with overseas bots folks!)
+ When you open the app for the first time you'll be greeted by posts which are within 100 miles of where you currently reside — but that doesn't mean you can only view nearby activity — Octopii has a global map view which shows all of the world's social activity in the palm of your hand!
+ The Map View allows you to “travel the world” in search of new like-minded connections and opportunities. We've seen friend-based map views before — but nothing like this! You can zoom in on tiny pockets of activity, whether it be an important public event, something cool happening nearby, or even a sports stadium which allows you to see live posts of the game as it's unfolding!
+ And the very best part? You'll know if you can trust what you're seeing! Octopii is the first app to implement an "IRL" badge system which applies a badge to any photo captured with the Octopii app — This badge means the photo is guaranteed to not be AI, not filtered, and not edited in any way whatsoever. It also tells you it was captured at the time and location displayed — in short, you'll know what you're seeing is exactly what happened and how it looked in real life.

What's new (v1.4.0)
Octopiii now has the ability to rotate to landscape for full screen HD video — as well as Home Screen notifications, improvements to the reaction panel, and a simpler login.
