Description

CityMenderSA is South Africa’s most advanced no-registration, resident-powered service-delivery reporting and tracking platform, built to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability across municipalities nationwide.

CityMenderSA is a private, independent civic-technology platform, built by South African youth and powered by residents and communities. It is not a government system, but works alongside municipal departments, ratepayer associations, UIPs, insurers, and service providers to improve how infrastructure issues are reported, tracked, escalated, and resolved.

What CityMenderSA does
Residents can report and track real-world infrastructure and service-delivery issues across eight core categories, including roads, water, electricity, sanitation, public safety, refuse, public spaces, and more, all through a clean, intuitive interface designed for everyday use.
Each report is issued a unique reference number, allowing full transparency and ongoing tracking from submission to resolution.

Community-driven updates
CityMenderSA allows residents to update their own reports, and contribute updates to other reports in their area. This shared, Waze-style updating model ensures faster feedback, real-world status confirmation, and stronger accountability, especially when issues are fixed.
Regular updates help close the loop and improve the accuracy and impact of service-delivery data.

CityMender Points
CityMenderSA introduces CityMender Points, an Africa-first civic participation system that rewards residents for logging issues, submitting updates, adding photos, and helping close cases. Points encourage positive participation and friendly competition between neighbours and communities nationwide.
National Management Desk & escalation
CityMenderSA operates a National Management Desk, with systems that learn to escalate issues to the relevant municipal departments. Responses received are logged against each issue, creating a transparent record that helps show when, how, and where reports were submitted, strengthening accountability and proof of engagement.

Nationwide by design
CityMenderSA works across South Africa, not just in one city or ward. While features like automated ward boundaries currently support eThekwini, the platform is architected to scale nationally as additional municipalities come online.

What's new (v1.0.11)

Our biggest update yet, Introducing CityMender Drive - a new way to report and track service delivery issues while on the move.

Residents can now receive helpful warnings for nearby road and infrastructure hazards, log common issues in one tap using their current location, and help confirm whether existing reports are still there or fixed.

CityMender Drive makes reporting faster, safer and more seamless, especially for potholes, sinkholes, traffic light faults, streetlight issues, water leaks, faded road markings and other hazards affecting communities.
