LiDAR Vision is an educational iOS application that demonstrates how LiDAR sensors perceive the physical world.
Designed for non-technical users, the app presents real-time LiDAR depth data through multiple visualisation modes that make distance, structure, and spatial geometry directly visible.
The app runs on iPhones equipped with LiDAR sensors and uses Apple’s ARKit and Metal frameworks to process depth data at full frame rate.
Visualisation modes
• Fog (X-Ray Vision)
Nearby objects remain clear while distant surfaces fade, showing how LiDAR measures depth continuously across a scene.
• Bands (Depth Layers)
The environment is segmented into colour-coded distance zones, allowing users to see depth ranges at a glance.
• Edges (3D Boundaries)
Glowing contours reveal where depth changes abruptly, illustrating how LiDAR detects object boundaries and structure.
• Raw Depth
A side-by-side view of the camera feed and LiDAR depth map shows the sensor’s unprocessed output.
• Point Cloud
A three-dimensional point cloud renders the environment as millions of spatial points that can be rotated and explored.
Key features
• Real-time LiDAR visualisation
• Five distinct educational modes
• High-performance Metal rendering
• Designed for iPhone Pro models with LiDAR
• No account, no tracking, no data collection
Device requirements
This app requires an iPhone with a LiDAR sensor (iPhone 12 Pro or later). Unsupported devices will display a compatibility notice.
LiDAR Vision is intended as a demonstration and learning tool to help users understand how modern depth-sensing technology works.
