What's new (vNanosonics Connect - 1.9.5)
1. Push notifications are now optional
The notification permission prompt is no longer required to use the app. Users can decline the permission and continue using all core features. The permission dialog is presented after login on the home screen, not at startup, giving users full context before deciding.
2. Why push notifications are important for this app
Nanosonics Connect is a medical device audit tool used in clinical healthcare environments to track ultrasound probe sterilisation procedures for infection control compliance.
Push notifications in this app are used exclusively for silent background data synchronisation (content-available: 1) between the mobile device and connected medical equipment (Trophon devices). There are no marketing, promotional, or user-facing alert notifications of any kind.
Silent push notifications allow the app to receive real-time sterilisation cycle data from connected devices while running in the background. This ensures audit records remain complete and accurate, which has direct implications for patient safety and infection control compliance in clinical settings.
3. iPhone only
We have also updated the app to correctly declare iPhone-only support (UIDeviceFamily = 1), as the app uses NFC hardware which is iPhone-specific. Future reviews should be conducted on an iPhone device.
We believe these changes fully address the guideline 4.5.4 requirement while preserving the medical functionality that healthcare professionals depend on.
