Description

Foil is your kitchen's memory - a calmly designed way to track what you buy, see what's ripe, and cook from what you actually have. Track items by hand, scan a grocery receipt, or just speak. Foil keeps watch and tells you what to use tonight.

The most thoughtful expiration tracker, grocery receipt scanner, voice-driven kitchen helper, AI recipe assistant, and collaborative household planner, all in one calm, modern app.

SCAN RECEIPTS IN SECONDS
- Snap a grocery receipt and Foil reads items, prices, and storage location in one pass
- Multi-pass OCR handles tilted, faded, or extra-long receipts from major chains
- Items stream in live as they're detected

- Smart fuzzy match handles word order and small mispronunciations

- A dozen cuisines: American, Chinese, French, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mediterranean, Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, and more
- Stack dietary preferences: Vegetarian, Vegan, Keto Friendly, Diabetic Friendly, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Low Carb, Paleo - recipes adapt

What's new (v1.5.1)

This release was about voice - making the kind of voice assistant a kitchen actually deserves. Instant, accurate, and quietly reliable in the background. We rebuilt the parts that mattered most and the result is a Foil that gets out of your way faster than ever.

INSTANT KITCHEN UPDATES
When you mark an item used by voice - from the phone or from your Apple Watch - the change now lands in your kitchen view the same moment Foil says "Done." No flicker, no navigating to another tab to see the change, no wondering if it actually worked. The same speed applies to partial consumption ("mark the milk 50% consumed"), full undo, and restore from Undo. Voice and tap both feel instant.

NATURAL SPEECH, FEWER MISFIRES
The voice agent is much better at understanding what you actually said. "Salad Ranch Dressing" finds your Ranch Salad Dressing - word order doesn't matter. Light transcription typos resolve gracefully (a speech recognizer occasionally hears "Gaffinated" when you said "Caffeinated" - Foil now matches that to your Coffee). Single-word commands ("mark the ranch") work when there's only one matching item. The agent searches all four storage locations - fridge, freezer, pantry, counter - before concluding something isn't in your kitchen.

EXPIRY QUERIES, ACTUALLY FILTERED
Ask "what's about to expire?" and Foil now answers with just items expiring within 3 days - not your whole inventory. "What's already expired?" filters by today's date. "Anything in my fridge going bad?" scopes the answer to fridge items only. The agent caps long lists, so for big inventories you hear the most urgent items first with a count of how many more remain.

NO MORE FALSE CONFIRMATIONS
If you ask Foil to do something it can't change - "mark BelVita 50% consumed" when it's already at 50% - it tells you the current state instead of pretending to act. The voice agent now trusts your current kitchen state over its memory of past turns, so older commands can't confuse it into responding with stale information.

RECEIPT RE-SCANS THAT MAKE SENSE
Scan the same weekly receipt twice and Foil now merges fresh items into your existing kitchen instead of creating duplicate rows. The quantity bumps on the existing item, and the expiry refreshes to the newer date. Partial leftovers from previous batches stay separate - that's intentional, since you'll often want to drain the older one before opening the new one. This is the realistic weekly-shopping behavior: scan, merge, get on with your day.

PULL TO REFRESH, RELIABLY
Drag down on any storage tab and the refresh now waits for the actual server fetch to complete. The spinner reflects what's really happening rather than a brief flash that disappears before any fresh data has loaded.

QUIETER KITCHEN OVER TIME
Items you've marked consumed are tidied up automatically after 90 days. Your active view stays focused on what's actually in your kitchen right now, not a growing backlog of every meal you've ever eaten. The cleanup runs quietly in the background; you don't have to do anything.

UNDER THE HOOD
- Server-side validation catches voice command edge cases that prompt-only enforcement couldn't reliably handle
- New database indexes keep active-item queries and background sync fast as your kitchen grows
- Conflict resolution improved so a slow network or a delayed background sync can't accidentally revert a local change
- Internal regression tests added so future prompt changes don't quietly break voice reliability

Thanks for using Foil. If anything feels off, the in-app feedback button reaches us directly. Voice is the core experience now, and we'd rather hear about a small annoyance early than have it ship unnoticed.
