Description
ToRothorNot helps you evaluate Roth conversion strategies and see how they may affect your retirement over time. Enter your Traditional IRA balance, tax-related inputs, and up to three custom scenarios to compare projected IRA value at age 72, end net worth, cumulative costs, and other key planning outcomes.
You can test Social Security claiming choices, compare scenarios side by side, and evaluate which approaches appear strongest for your situation. The app also supports married households, including survivor-spouse modeling and separate spouse Social Security timing.
Premium unlocks Computed Strategies that automatically test approaches such as No Conversions, Balanced Conversions, Best End Net Worth Found, Optimized for Net Worth at 72, and more. Premium also adds heir-focused comparisons, PDF export of the Summary, CSV export of detailed Results, and dynamic Explore tools for what-if analysis.
Explore lets you adjust conversion amounts, Social Security timing, spending, investment growth, annual QCDs, and other planning inputs to see results change in real time. For ACA users, the app also includes subsidy-aware exploration to show how key income inputs may affect ACA costs and subsidies.
ToRothorNot models a broad range of factors, including federal tax brackets, Social Security taxation, the enhanced Senior Deduction, IRMAA surcharges, NIIT, AMT, ACA premiums and subsidies, capital gains taxation, QCDs, and survivor-spouse timing effects. The current release models 2026 federal tax tables and related limits, and the app is intended to be updated each year to reflect tax-law and threshold changes.
This is an educational planning tool and does not model every IRS worksheet or edge case. It does not guarantee the absolute best strategy, but it can be a practical way to evaluate tradeoffs and prepare for conversations with your advisor.
