When activated, walkipedia will follow along with your location and identify Wikipedia articles about subjects within an adjustable distance of waypoints on your route. Imagine you are on vacation and going for a walk in an unfamiliar city. With walkipedia you can leave your phone in your pocket as it collects articles on nearby landmarks, museums, buildings of cultural and historical significance, popular restaurants and noteworthy events from the past. When your walk is over you can use your curated list of relevant articles to learn more about the city and its history and culture. Walkipedia allows you to save your journeys so that you can refer back to articles of interest. We also attach a map with saved waypoints that correspond to the location of the topics of particular articles. In this way you can keep track of your learnings and visit anything you might’ve missed or desire to take a closer look at. Walkipedia works by using Wikipedia GeoSearch API to find Wikipedia articles that are GeoTagged to coordinates within an adjustable distance of the user. Users also have the option to enable or disable notifications for real-time alerts when they come within a specific distance of a place of significance. Happy travels!
