**How to Play:**
Chinese Chess is played on a board divided by a "river" in the middle. Each player commands 16 pieces: one General, two Advisors, two Elephants, two Horses, two Chariots, two Cannons, and five Soldiers.
**Movement Rules:**
- **将/帅 - General:** Moves one step horizontally or vertically within the palace. The two Generals cannot face each other directly with no pieces in between.
- **士/仕 - Advisor:** Moves one step diagonally within the palace.
- **象/相 - Elephant:** Moves exactly two steps diagonally, forming a "field" pattern. Cannot cross the river.
- **马 - Horse:** Moves one step orthogonally then one step diagonally outward, forming an "L" shape. Blocked if a piece sits adjacent to it.
- **车 - Chariot:** Moves any distance horizontally or vertically. The most powerful piece on the board.
- **炮 - Cannon:** Moves any distance horizontally or vertically like the Chariot, but captures by jumping over exactly one piece (the "cannon platform").
- **兵/卒 - Soldier:** Moves one step forward. After crossing the river, can also move one step horizontally. Never moves backward.
**Victory Condition:**
Checkmate the opponent's General. The General is in checkmate when it is under attack and has no legal moves to escape. The game also ends if a player has no legal moves available (stalemate) or through repetition of positions.
