Description
Kelo is a privacy-first FIRE retirement planner that runs 100,000 Monte Carlo simulations on your iPhone — no signup, no bank logins, no tracking.
Most retirement calculators use a single assumed rate of return and call it a day. Bank-connected trackers want your login credentials and sell your data. Neither helps you stress-test early retirement against the real history of markets.
Kelo is different. Every simulation runs on 98 years of historical US market data (1928 to present) using the same block-bootstrap method researchers use for retirement research. Nothing leaves your device.

WILL YOUR MONEY OUTLAST YOU?
For most FIRE planners, a long, well-funded retirement is far more likely than running short — the antidote to one-more-year anxiety. Rich, Broke or Dead overlays SSA actuarial life tables to split each year into alive & funded, alive & broke, and deceased. Free. Based on public actuarial data, not a personal health prediction.
WHAT IF YOU RETIRED IN 2000?
1966 and 2000 are the FIRE community's worst-case SORR benchmarks — stagflation and the dot-com+GFC sequence. Compare to History overlays your exact plan on those returns. One verdict line on your Monte Carlo fan: green if the cohort survived your horizon, red if it depleted. No fabricated returns. Free.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Enter your portfolio, savings rate, and target spending
2. Pick a FIRE mode and stock / bond allocation
3. Run the simulation — see your success rate, median trajectory, and percentile fan chart
4. Save scenarios, compare them, and tune until you're confident

What's new (v1.2.0)
What if you retired in 2000?
v1.2 adds Compare to History — a free feature that overlays your exact plan against three named historical cohorts: 1966 (stagflation worst-case), 2000 (dot-com collapse → GFC), and 2008 (GFC anchor).
Every year on r/financialindependence, someone publishes the running tally for retirees who started in 2000. The FIRE community hand-rolls this analysis in spreadsheets — Kelo now does it for your specific plan, with your portfolio, your spending, and your Social Security and ACA modeling intact.
How it works: pick a cohort from the results screen. Kelo runs your plan against that cohort's contiguous SBBI return sequence (1928–2025 data, no resampling, no fabricated returns). The result overlays as a single line on your existing Monte Carlo fan chart — green if the cohort survived your horizon, red if it depleted, amber if history runs out before your horizon ends. The verdict is always labeled: "Survived all 40 years" or "Depleted at year 28 (age 93)." Fully accessible to VoiceOver.
This is a free disclosure feature for all users — no paywall, no trial required.
Also in v1.2:
• 1966 (stagflation), 2000 (dot-com+GFC), and 2008 (GFC) cohorts available at launch
• The cohort line is a second series on the fan chart, independently navigable by VoiceOver
• Truncated verdict (amber) shown when the cohort's historical data ends before your horizon — Kelo never fabricates returns
As always: no bank logins, no signup, no tracking. Your data stays on your device.
