Description
Read and listen to your own books with a quiet, local-first iPhone reader.
Drowsebook imports DRM-free EPUB, PDF, TXT, MOBI, and AZW3 files. It keeps your bookshelf, reading positions, bookmarks, PDF cleanup rules, and listening progress on your device.
What Drowsebook is built for:
• Read imported books with typography tuned for long sessions
• Listen with Apple system voices through AVSpeechSynthesizer
• Continue audio in the background with Lock Screen controls and ±15s jumps
• Clean noisy PDFs by hiding page numbers, footnotes, short headers, captions, or custom patterns
• Keep per-book PDF dictionary rules for documents that need manual cleanup
• Export reading data as JSON or clear reading data from Settings
Privacy and purchase:
Drowsebook has no account system, no third-party advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no server dependency for reading or listening. Your imported book files are handled locally on your iPhone.
Drowsebook is a one-time purchase utility for reading and listening to your own DRM-free ebooks. The optional supporter tier has the same app access and exists for users who want to support independent development. Family Sharing is enabled.
Encrypted books and some newer Kindle variants are not supported. Drowsebook is for digital files only and does not scan paper books.
What's new (v1.1)
v1.1
• Added in-app UI support for 12 common languages, with automatic system-language matching and manual switching in Settings
• Added direct listen shortcuts on the bookshelf and Home; active narration now turns Continue Reading into a slim Now Playing card with chapter progress, stop, and quick return
• Improved shared progress across reading, the listening player, and Home Now Playing; narration can continue page-to-page after returning Home and sync the last heard page
• Added clearer guidance for downloading Apple high-quality iOS voices when only standard voices are available
• Added a Follow System theme: tea-toned wood in light appearance and warm dark navy at night, plus equal-margin adaptive Home cards
• Fixed Apple Books package-style EPUB import, file size display, and the EPUB badge layout on larger book covers
• Fixed bookshelf cover taps after listening so covers always reopen reading mode, while headphones remain the direct-listen shortcut
• Simplified the free library limit: bundled samples do not count, free users can keep 2 of their own books, and local listening no longer has a separate time gate
• Added a Files-visible Drowsebook Books folder, external “Open in Drowsebook” import, and duplicate-safe re-adds
• Added clearer delete choices: remove from shelf or delete from the Books folder
• Fixed Continue Reading after clearing the shelf, background music sequential playback, reader play-button tap-through page turns, EPUB listening auto-advance across catalog/front-matter pages, listening resume position after stopping, reading pages reopening trimmed while narration is active, and Play returning to an old paused sentence after changing pages
