TextEditS - Edit In Place

TextEditS opens the text files already on your device, edits them, and saves them back where they were. Nothing is copied into the app. It is built for the moment you need to fix a config file on the move, check a log on site, or reopen a note written years ago.

■ The rule for an app that touches your originals
Files are never copied into the app. Open, edit, save in place. Until you press save, the original file does not change. If another app modified the same file while you were working, you are told before you overwrite it.

■ Nothing is lost when you don't save
If the app closes while you are working, your tabs and unsaved edits come back exactly as they were. Unsaved work is kept in the app's private storage, entirely separate from the original file. Saving happens only when you ask for it.

■ Encodings handled properly
EUC-KR, CP949, Shift_JIS, GBK and Big5 files are detected and opened correctly, including extended Korean characters. You can also choose an encoding and reopen the file, and if a character cannot be written in the encoding you picked, you are warned before the file is damaged. Line endings (LF/CRLF) are preserved as they were.

■ Everything you need to edit
• Open several files as tabs and move between them.
• Find and replace with match case, whole word and regular expressions. Replace All is a single undo away.
• Line numbers on the left, with line marks you can tap and jump between.
• An outline of functions, classes and headings for quick navigation.
• Document tools: sort, remove duplicate or blank lines, adjust indentation, convert case, count words.
• Auto indent and bracket completion that stay out of the way while you type in Korean, Japanese or Chinese.

■ File management and other apps
Rename, move, copy and paste, and create folders without leaving the app. Non-text files are not opened in the editor; you are offered to open or share them with another app instead, because opening a PDF here would garble it and saving would destroy it.

■ A comfortable place to read
Nine themes including Light, Dark, Sepia, Paper, Black (OLED), Solarized and Monokai, with adjustable font size and line spacing. Available in Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

■ Your file contents never leave the device
The contents, names and folder paths of the files you open are never transmitted. There is no account, no login and no advertising.
